As part of the upcoming One UI 8.5 update, Samsung has developed several new features. Some of them have leaked over the past few days. Today, a new feature was spotted that can protect sensitive information from your images when you are sharing them with others.
Samsung has developed a new feature called Privacy Protection. It can automatically blur or redact sensitive information from in images when you are sharing them. For example, when you share your driving licence or passport with someone, you can choose to hide sensitive information that you don't want to share with that person.

When you share any image using a device running One UI 8.5, you can access the Privacy Protection feature from the More section at the end of the list in the sharing menu. After tapping that option, it analyzes the image you are sharing to detect sensitive information and blurs it.
You can choose the redaction style and things you want to hide or show from the detailed screen. You can also compare the redacted and unedited versions of that image by tapping the compare button on the right side of the screen. Once you are satisfied with the redaction, you can proceed with sharing or saving it.
This feature has been available in previous versions of One UI but was limited to China. Now, the company is planning to bring it to its phones globally with the One UI 8.5 update. Samsung could be using some form of on-device AI (like Gemini Nano) to analyze images for Privacy Protection.
