The Samsung TV experience is improving yearly, but perhaps the most notable milestone was the release of the first One UI-branded Tizen update last year. It marked the beginning of a new era for Samsung TVs, where the Tizen experience borrows more design cues from the mobile segment and One UI.
Samsung now follows the principle of delivering a more consistent UI design across mobile and TVs. The One UI design became even more prominent for the 2025 TV lineup with Vision AI. The latest Tizen update brings visual and technical improvements across the OS. But there is one Samsung TV upgrade that doesn't seem to get enough recognition.
The first One UI-inspired update for Samsung TVs not only made the interface prettier and arguably easier to navigate but also improved the built-in media player and file browser. For external storage users, this is a huge deal.
In case you don't know, you can connect an external HDD or SSD to your Samsung TV via USB and browse its folder structure using the TV's remote. More importantly, Samsung TVs have a built-in media player that allows you to play video files saved on the external storage device — complete with subtitles.
In the past, this area of the Samsung TV experience felt neglected. Almost like an afterthought, as if Samsung was slowly improving everything about its TV except the built-in file browser and media player.
We're happy to say that the One UI-based Tizen update vastly improved this side of the UX. Not only does the file browser look more modern, but it's also way more responsive. And, as you may have guessed, the media player also looks better and feels snappier than it ever was in previous Tizen OS versions.
If you want to take a closer look at other recent improvements and UI changes Samsung introduced with the 2025 TV models, we recommend watching our YouTube video below. It serves as a complete guide for the TV UI experience in 2025, so if you ever wondered what it's like using a Samsung TV, this video will answer all your questions.
