Qualcomm has unveiled a new premium mid-range Snapdragon chip for smartphones and handheld gaming devices. It is the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, and it brings minor performance improvements over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 that was used in the Galaxy XCover 7 Pro. The newer chip could be used in future Galaxy XCover series phones.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 (model number SM7635-AC) is fabricated using TSMC's 4nm process node. It features an octa-core CPU featuring one Cortex-A720 CPU core clocked at 2.7GHz, three Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores running at 1.8GHz.
Its highest-clocked CPU core runs 200MHz faster than the one in the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which brings 7% faster CPU performance. Its Adreno 810 CPU is also 7% more powerful than the one in the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. So, that's not a meaningful improvement in the overall performance. It supports up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM at up to 3,200MHz or LPDDR4X RAM at up to 2,133MHz. The chipset can be paired with UFS 3.1 storage.

Since it is also designed for handheld gaming consoles and gaming emulators in mind, its gaming-related features like Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0, HDR10+ Gaming, and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution would be useful. It also supports ultra-wide displays with up to 1,300 x 2,900 pixels at a 144Hz refresh rate.

Its built-in Spectra ISP supports up to 200MP resolution cameras with up to 4K 30fps HDR video recording in HDR10 and HLG formats. It supports 1080p 120fps slow-motion videos.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4's connectivity features include sub-6GHz 5G (with Dual-SIM Dual-Active 5G + 5G), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 (with LE Audio and Aptx Lossless), GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC. It supports USB 3.1 (5Gbps) Type-C ports. Its built-in model supports a maximum theoretical download speed of up to 2.9Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1.6Gbps.
