Many people use the Netflix app on their phones to cast content on their TVs, either directly or through devices like the Chromecast. It allows for easier navigation as well since users can rely on app controls instead of the TV's remote to navigate the many content choices on the app.
However, Netflix has now tightened things up and removed the ability to cast from the mobile app to the TV. This feature now works for only some legacy devices.
As AndroidAuthority points out, Netflix has updated a support page on its website to confirming that it doesn't support casting shows from a mobile device to most TVs and TV-streaming devices. Users are advised to use the remote that came with their TV or streaming device to navigate Netflix.
This is an almost blanket ban, with the exception of older Chromecast models and Google Cast-enabled TVs. The company's support pages mention that the casting option remains accessible for users who have these devices, but even that's not without limitation.
Users who are on ad-supported Netflix plans won't be allowed casting even if their devices support it. Netflix is only offering the casting feature to legacy device owners if they're on a non-ad-supported plan.
Modern smart TVs, including those from Samsung, already come with native Netflix apps. The video streaming service would rather prefer that users rely on their apps in entirety instead of casting through the mobile app.
