Every year, mobile manufacturers make changes to their lineups, big and small. Arguably, retiring a product is the most notable change of all. An event of this magnitude rarely goes by unnoticed by fans, but it can happen. Can you guess which iconic product Samsung seemingly and quietly cancelled in 2025? Here's a hint: it's a phone accessory that's been around for 12 years.
A few fans have noticed its mysterious disappearance, but others have not. And if you're still searching for an answer, here it is: the S-View (or Smart View) Case. Samsung didn't release any new S-View cases in 2025, and nobody knows if this accessory will make a comeback.
Some Samsung fans have noticed early on, with the launch of the Galaxy S25 lineup, that they couldn't buy an S-View case for their 2025 flagships. Some hoped it would be just a temporary setback at launch, but the trend continued.
Until and including last year, Samsung released S-View cases for both the Galaxy S and Galaxy A lineups. Sometimes, Galaxy A phones had the most interesting S View case designs. And years ago, Samsung also designed and sold S-View cases for the now-retired Galaxy Note series.
In fact, the first S-View case debuted in 2013 with the launch of the Galaxy Note 3. The revolutionary accessory introduced the unique concept of interacting with the Super AMOLED display through a cutout in the case's cover.

This type of interaction was possible thanks to the Super AMOLED display technology, which can turn off portions of the screen while keeping the S-View area active. So every S-View case had to let the phone know which portions of the screen it should light up, when, and what it should display.
There's no official reason why Samsung hasn't released any new S-View cases this year, but we have a possible theory, and it has to do with the complexity described in the paragraph above.
The S-View case is supposed to adapt the active screen area based on whether the screen cover is open or closed. This clever feature requires a bit of software. And as cool as S-View cases are, or were, they weren't without flaws.
Over the years, countless Galaxy phone users with S-View cases have reported issues after receiving firmware updates. They would frequently disrupted the S-View case's capability to function properly.
More often than not, these issues could be resolved by rebooting the phone or clearing the cache. That doesn't sound like a huge deal, but in the end, these occasional hiccups could have been the reason why Samsung didn't want to deal with S-View cases any longer.
It's nothing official, but it is a theory, and it seems to make some sense, especially now that Samsung intends to support most of its phones with six or seven generations of OS upgrades.
Maybe we had to leave S-View cases behind so that this new firmware policy could be feasible. Or perhaps it has nothing to do with it. But whether S-View cases will return is anyone's guess. We'll keep you posted if Samsung changes course.
Missing the S-View case?
