One UI 8.5 is turning out to be a surprisingly big visual update. Samsung has filled it with UI tweaks and refinements, something the company usually saves for major One UI or Android version upgrades rather than mid-cycle releases.

The changes range from noticeable redesigns to smaller details, and one of those smaller but immediately visible tweaks affects how the battery percentage is shown in the status bar.

On previous versions of One UI, users could choose between two simple options: show the battery percentage as a number or hide it entirely and rely only on the pill-shaped battery icon. One UI 8.5 changes that behavior. The battery level is now always displayed as a number, but Samsung gives you a new way to customize how it looks.

Instead of toggling the percentage on or off, you can now decide whether the pill-shaped battery icon appears in the status bar. Disabling it leaves you with a cleaner look, showing just the battery level with a % sign next to it.

If you want to change this setting, open the Settings app and head to Notifications > Status bar. From there, simply toggle Show battery background on or off to switch between the two styles.
