At Google I/O 2025, Google talked a lot about artificial intelligence and Gemini. However, that wasn’t all. The brand also announced a lot of updates to many of its products. We already talked about those for Android Auto (1, 2, 3). In this article, we are taking a look at the updates the brand announced for Google Wallet.

Google has announced that it is upgrading Google Wallet with a new feature called Nearby Passes notifications. If there’s an event pass in the wallet and you reach the event’s physical location, the feature will send you a notification showing you a preview of the pass for it. Once you tap on it, you will see the pass. This feature makes it easier for you to access passes.

It’s worth pointing out that people will have to activate Nearby Passes notifications manually. Google says that “this feature is designed to provide timely and relevant information by alerting users about pertinent passes, such as loyalty cards, offers, boarding passes, or event tickets, when they approach a designated point of interest.” There’s more to the story, though.

Google is also adding two new notification toggles to Google Wallet. The first one allows users to turn on or off notifications for a specific pass. The second one lets you control whether you want to receive Nearby Passes notifications or not. At the moment, there’s no information about when the tech giant will release these features.
