Google Messages, the default messaging app on millions of Galaxy smartphones, now allows you to remotely delete sent messages. This new feature can save you from wrongly sent messages or messages with embarrassing mistakes. It works with RCS messages sent to other compatible devices.
RCS, now widely available on Android smartphones, offers several modern messaging features. These include real-time typing indicators, high-resolution image and video sharing, group messaging, message reactions, GIFs, and stickers. It now also allows you to remotely delete sent RCS messages.
When you are chatting with someone via RCS using Google Messages, you will now see the ‘Delete For Everyone' option after you long-press a message. Earlier, the app only had the ‘Delete For Me' option, which deletes the message from your own device. The new option, spotted by Android Authority, deletes the message from every other person's phone that is present in that chat thread.
This is a feature that many people would be happy having. It was first spotted under development earlier this year and was then released to some beta testers. Now, it seems to be rolling out widely.
It isn't clear if this feature is based on RCS Universal Profile or Google's custom implementation. If it is based on the RCS Universal Profile 3.0, which brought support for editing and unsending messages, it could work with iPhones in the future. The iOS 26 update is said to be bringing support for RCS Universal Profile 3.0 in the stock messaging app.
