Two years ago, Google formally introduced Gemini, its newest-generation AI-powered digital assistant. It was first released to newer Galaxy devices. Then, it was released to older Galaxy phones, tablets, and smartwatches as well. However, Gemini hasn't completely replaced Google Assistant. That could change soon, though.
Google had mentioned in the past that it will slowly phase out Google Assistant across Android and ChromeOS, and it has been doing so over the past couple of years. In the latest version of Google (v16.46.61), a change was spotted that replaces Google Assistant branding with Gemini. This change was spotted in the ‘Hey Google' setup process.

Similar branding changes were spotted in the ‘Hey Google & Voice Match' feature in Gemini. Similar branding changes were also spotted in the Gemini app's Settings section. The ‘Hey Google & Voice Match' section of the Settings menu has been replaced with ‘Talk to Gemini hands-free.'
The report claims that the Google Assistant branding will cease to exist after March 2026.

Samsung replaced Google Assistant with Gemini on Galaxy phones and tablets with the One UI 7.0 update. It isn't clear what will happen on devices running One UI 6.1.1 or older software and are not eligible to get the One UI 7.0 update, but it is likely those devices will also get Gemini via an app update.
