In July, Samsung revealed that the brand will launch its first smartphone with a tri-folding display, which according to various report, may arrive as the Galaxy Z TriFold, by the end of this year. Well, a new report about it from Korea suggests that the company may launch it much sooner and may offer it in limited quantities.
According to a new report from ET News, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z TriFold next month (October 2025) and make it available to purchase from the month after (November 2025). However, the South Korean tech giant is going to produce only 50,000 units of the device in the initial phase, mainly for two reasons.
First, Samsung wants to gauge customer response. Since the Galaxy Z TriFold will have a new form factor, it could either be a hit or a miss. Manufacturing a small number of units will make sure that in case people don’t respond to it well, the brand doesn’t face issues clearing out the stock. Since it will be the first Galaxy phone of its kind, it could also have issues. In that case too, producing a small number of phones makes sure that the brand can quickly solve the problem and avoid losses.
Second, Samsung doesn’t want to cannibalise the sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Launched in July, the brand’s latest book-style foldable phone is selling very well, breaking many sales records. The company’s upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold, if offered at a reasonable price and made available to purchase easily, could cannibalise the sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is something that South Korean tech giant doesn’t want, claims the report from Korea.
So far, there have been multiple leaks about the hardware and software of Samsung’s upcoming tri-folding phone.
According to them, the Galaxy Z TriFold will have three sections, held together by two hinges, and both of them will fold inwards, protecting the display from the environment and enhancing durability. This design is different from that of Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, the only tri-fold phone currently on sale, where one part folds inwards and the other folds outwards, exposing the display to the environment.
This tri-folding display will be a 9.96-inch unit. Apart from it, the phone will have a cover 6.49-inch cover display. The Galaxy Z TriFold will support wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and NFC payments. Recently, we also got to see its multitasking capabilities. Unfortunately, we don't have details about the phone's processor, RAM and storage configurations, cameras, battery capacity, and connectivity yet.
