Yesterday, Samsung unveiled its most impressive foldable phones to date. They feature bigger screens with barely any visible crease, faster performance, and thinner and lighter bodies. But if you already have a Galaxy Z Fold 6, would upgrading to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 make any sense?

Let us find out how the Galaxy Z Fold 7's features and specifications compare to the Galaxy Z Fold 6's. You can read more about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 here.

Even though the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 look similar, their designs and aspect ratios are quite different. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 26% thinner and 10% lighter than its predecessor. It is also taller and wider. Detailed dimensions and weights of both phones are listed below.

Galaxy Z Fold 6

    • Folded: 153.5 x 68.1 x 12.1mm
    • Unfolded: 153.5 x 132.6 x 5.6mm
    • Weight: 239g

Galaxy Z Fold 7

    • Folded: 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9mm
    • Unfolded: 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.2mm
    • Weight: 215g

While both phones use Armor Aluminum frames, glass protection on the front and the rear, and an IP48 rating (dust and water resistance), the Galaxy Z Fold 7 uses a 9% stronger and 10% harder material called Advanced Armor Aluminum for its frame. The newer foldable phone also uses Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for screen protection, and it is slightly stronger than Gorilla Glass Victus 2 used in the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

You can see its design up close in our hands-on video below.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner screen. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 sports bigger, 6.5-inch cover and 8-inch foldable screens. While the displays on both phones can reach up to 2,600 nits peak brightness, the inner screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a less visible crease, thanks to its new Armor FlexHinge that folds the screen at a gentler angle.

Both phones have 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB storage, stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, 5G, GPS, UWB, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 gets upgraded wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, though.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a much bigger (1/1.3-inch) and higher resolution (200MP) primary rear camera. It uses the same sensor that is present on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It also gets an autofocus lens for its 12MP ultrawide camera. Its punch-hole seflie camera on the inner screen also captures much clearer images and videos. The 10MP telephoto and 10MP outer selfie cameras remain similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, though.

To fit in bigger screens and better cameras while making the phone thinner, Samsung had to skip adding bigger batteries. So, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 uses the same 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Both phones also feature 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

So, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has bigger screens, a more durable design, better cameras, and faster performance. On top of these things, it is a lot thinner and lighter as well. It is one of those rare phones that deserves a year-over-year upgrade recommendation as it brings several improvements in just one generation.
