The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the world's lightest and thinnest book-style foldable phone yet. Despite its thin and light body, the phone isn't fragile as some might think. It was recently subjected to a torture test, and it passed the test with flying colors. Now, the foldable phone has passed another extreme torture test.
Popular YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything fame tested the Galaxy Z Fold 7's durability through his usual bending, scratching, and burning tests. And the phone stood up admirably. As usual, the cover screen, which is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, scratched at level 6 on Moh's scale of mineral hardness. The 50% thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) scratched at level 2, which is common for foldable screens.
The phone's frame, made using Samsung's Enhanced Armor Aluminum material, is pretty tough. The Armor FlexHinge, which is new this year and can withstand up to 500,000 folds and unfolds, held up surprisingly well despite being bent backwards with a lot of force. It continued working normally after being subject to the bend tests multiple times. The front and back glass panels also did not crack under pressure, which is extremely impressive.
The internal 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen continued working normally despite being rubbed against dirt, dust, and gravel. Pixels in its cover and internal display panels burnt permanently after facing flame from a cigarette lighter for ten seconds, but that is expected behavior from any modern display panel.
The YouTuber also tried to insert dirt and gravel into the Galaxy Z Fold 7's hinge, but the hinge still opened and closed without any issues, which speaks volumes about Samsung's technological expertise in designing strong foldable phones.
