Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra appears to be going back to its design roots in at least one aspect. A photo of a Galaxy S26 Ultra screen protector reveals that the phone will have even rounder corners than the S25 Ultra. See the side-by-side comparison image below.

Rounded corners were the standard for the Ultra model a few years ago. However, things changed when Samsung canceled the Galaxy Note series and transitioned the S Pen to the Galaxy S. For three generations, the Galaxy S Ultra had very boxy corners, which many S-series fans didn't necessarily agree with.

Fortunately for most fans, the Galaxy S25 Ultra broke that mold earlier this year and reintroduced the idea of rounded corners for the Ultra model.

However, next year, it looks like the Galaxy S26 Ultra will embrace that idea even more. The next-gen model appears to depart even further from the boxy design of 2022-2024. Check it out below.

The image above, shared on X, likely showcases a third-party screen protector and not the original Galaxy S26 Ultra glass.

So, although the bezel width shown here isn't to be taken for granted, the overall shape of the glass and its corners should match the phone's design. It's certainly rounder than the S25 Ultra.

A return to the Ultra roots?

At a glance, the S26 Ultra's corners have a radius similar to the old Galaxy S21 Ultra. However, unlike the old phone from 2021, which had curved screen edges, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to have a completely flat display.

You could say that the Galaxy S26 Ultra might attempt to combine the advantages of both design elements, i.e., a flat screen surface for the best S Pen experience and higher durability, and rounder corners for extra comfort.

Samsung should unveil the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026. As per previous leaks, the phone's rear cameras may once again be surrounded by a camera island.

The same early leaks also suggest that the S Pen will be pushed so close to the left edge of the phone that its clicker button could be slightly curved to match the frame's own curvature.

Author's Note: By forgetting or overlooking the Ultra series' history, it is tempting to say that Samsung's upcoming Ultra phone is losing its identity. But in a way, it's the opposite.

It must be stressed that if the S26 Ultra adopts rounded corners, this won't be a departure from the phone's roots but rather a callback to the Ultra's origins from 2020 and 2021.
