The Galaxy S26 Ultra features Samsung’s most advanced camera system yet. The company has equipped its 200MP primary camera and 50MP telephoto camera with wider apertures to allow more light to hit the sensor, helping improve image and video quality.

In addition to the standard 12MP, 50MP, and 200MP resolution options, the phone also supports 24MP still images. However, enabling that option requires installing an additional app.

Galaxy S26 Ultra's 24MP mode can be enabled with the Camera Assistant app

To access the 24MP mode, you need to install Samsung’s Camera Assistant app from the Galaxy Store on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Although it is a first-party Samsung app, it does not come preinstalled on the device.

Once installed, you must enable the 24MP option within Camera Assistant. After that, the 24MP resolution becomes available inside the default Camera app.

Each resolution setting serves a different purpose. The 12MP mode generally delivers the best results in terms of dynamic range, noise levels, and consistent colors. The 50MP and 200MP modes capture relatively more detail, which can be useful when cropping or zooming into an image, but they may not offer the same colors and dynamic range.

24MP mode offers best balance between colors, details, and dynamic range

The Galaxy S26 Ultra's 24MP mode sits between these options. It is designed to provide a balance between details and image processing, offering more resolution than 12MP while maintaining better dynamic range and color performance than the 50MP and 200MP modes in many situations.

This 24MP setting is different from the 24MP option available in the Expert RAW app. In the default Camera app, the 24MP mode is optimized for point-and-shoot photography, so you do not need to manually adjust settings such as ISO, shutter speed, or exposure to achieve good results.
