As you may already know, Samsung is already seriously testing One UI 8.5 for some devices, even though the official One UI 8.0 (Android 16) rollout hasn’t finished yet.
One UI 8.5 will make its debut with the Galaxy S26 series next year, and pretty much every device eligible for One UI 8.0 is likely to get the new update as well.
And surprise, surprise: we’ve learned that Samsung will also launch a One UI 8.5 beta program later this year. We’re told the beta could start in the final week of November, or during the week beginning November 24.
It’s unusual for Samsung to hold beta programs for these mid-cycle One UI updates, but nothing about One UI has been typical recently. Major One UI and Android updates typically roll out for Galaxy devices in the final quarter of each year, but One UI 7.0 disrupted the traditional release pattern by arriving in April 2025 instead of late 2024.
After that, Samsung skipped smaller point releases for One UI 7 entirely and jumped straight to One UI 8.0, which also had a beta phase. Next up? One UI 8.5. And it makes sense — One UI beta programs are usually held for the version that the next Galaxy S flagship will ship with out of the box, and this time around, that version is 8.5.
Now, how widely the One UI 8.5 beta program will be available remains to be seen, as there isn’t much history to go by. We can hope that the usual countries that are always part of Samsung’s big One UI beta programs will be included this time as well, but we don’t have any information to share on that front just yet.
It also remains unclear which devices will be eligible for the beta program, though we can expect all flagship devices launched in the past two years to be included. As for the official release, it will probably coincide with the debut of the Galaxy S26 series.
