The Galaxy S24 Ultra will soon be two years old. How time flies! Thankfully, Samsung's firmware policy is much more consumer-friendly than it used to be, so you won't have to replace your 2024 Galaxy flagship once the S26 Ultra goes on sale early next year. Not unless you really want to.

However, as the clock keeps ticking, you may soon start noticing your Galaxy S24 Ultra slowing down, if you haven't already. It may no longer feel like the ultra-premium device it was at launch, but you can try to keep it speedy for longer.

Maintain your Galaxy S24 Ultra's performance

The best and easiest way to keep your Galaxy S24 Ultra running fast is by performing general maintenance steps.

These aren't magic tricks that will speed up your phone beyond its physical capabilities, but it is good practice to perform these steps on your aging device if you want to get the most out of it.

Run the latest firmware

Keeping your Galaxy S24 Ultra updated to the latest firmware is by far the easiest thing you can do to maintain performance and a high level of security on your phone. But it is also an easy step to miss if you don't keep up with the latest mobile news.

As of this writing, the latest Samsung update available for your Galaxy S24 Ultra is One UI 8.0. It brings performance improvements, smoother animations, and more.

Everything about One UI 8.0

Make sure your phone runs the latest firmware. Follow these steps.

Settings > Software update > Download and install

Manage your Galaxy S24 Ultra's memory usage

In time, your Galaxy S24 Ultra's available storage will decrease the more photos and videos you save and the more apps you install.

It's good practice to keep at least around 10% of your storage empty to avoid slowdowns. You can monitor your storage by opening Settings > Device Care > Storage.

Speaking of which, you can also monitor RAM usage on your Galaxy S24 Ultra and clean the memory by opening Settings > Device Care > Memory > Clean Now.

Uninstall unused apps

Unused apps not only take up storage but can also slow down your phone if not put to sleep. As a rule of thumb, it's better to remove unused apps from your phone than to fill your Galaxy S24 Ultra's storage unnecessarily.

You can uninstall apps by tapping and holding their icons in the app drawer and selecting Uninstall.

Help your Galaxy S24 Ultra by restarting it

We expect our phones to stay up and running all the time, but rebooting them from time to time can do wonders and improve performance.

You can always restart your phone manually whenever you want. But if you don't want to think about it, you can automate the process and either set a schedule for auto-restarting or let your Galaxy S24 Ultra decide when it's time for a reboot.

Settings > Device Care > Auto Optimization > Auto restart

Choose the standard performance profile for your Galaxy S24 Ultra

On One UI 8, you can select one of two performance profiles for your Galaxy S24 Ultra.

    • Light: Prioritizes battery life and cooling efficiency over processing speed.
    • Standard: Provides the recommended balance between processing speed, battery life, and cooling efficiency.

To ensure your Galaxy S24 Ultra runs the smoothest, you should use the Standard profile. To do this:

Settings > Device Care > Performance profile > Standard

Try using less eye candy

As your Galaxy S24 Ultra gets older, it might not be able to keep up with the latest One UI visual effects as easily as newer premium phones.

You can try improving your phone's performance by avoiding advanced visual elements such as live wallpapers and too many widgets.

Adjust One UI animations

Last but not least, you can make your Galaxy S24 Ultra feel more responsive by speeding up or cutting down on One UI animations.

You can do this through the hidden Developer options menu by tweaking Animation Scale options. You can unhide Developer options with these steps:

Settings > About phone > Software information > tap Build Number repeatedly.

Alternatively, if you don't feel comfortable unhiding and accessing Developer options, you can turn off One UI animations and blur effects from the accessibility menu.

Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > Reduce animations/Reduce transparency OFF

The trade-in route

If you're unhappy with how your Galaxy S24 Ultra performs even after trying everything to speed it up, you can consider the trade-in route.

In markets where Samsung operates its trade-in program, you can save up to a few hundred dollars on a newer Galaxy phone by exchanging your Galaxy S24 Ultra.

This isn't the cheapest option to gain more performance, of course, but it is an option nonetheless.
