One major difference between the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and its predecessors is that it doesn't support the S Pen. The previous model, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, was the last to include this feature. And Samsung still sells the Fold 6 S Pen Case for anyone interested. However, this pricey accessory comes with some heavy baggage.

If you are tempted to buy the S Pen Case for your Galaxy Z Fold 6, you may want to think twice. First, the S Pen Case is one of the most expensive Samsung cases you can buy. Second, it doesn't seem to be all that reliable.

The case consists of two halves, one for the back panel, where the S Pen resides, and a frame for the cover screen. According to user reviews on Samsung's e-shop in the USA, the expensive Galaxy Z Fold 6 S Pen case may have fatal flaw. The frame seems very easy to crack and break around the corners, even without impact.

Samsung customers in the USA — and likely elsewhere — have shared many pictures of the accessory with one of its corners broken. And the 108 reviews listed as of this writing lead to an overall rating of only 1.8 stars out of 5.

The same accessory also has an average rating of 1.4 stars out of 5 at Samsung's UK e-shop, but we couldn't find what the reviews are actually saying. This seems to be a general (likely temporary) issue with Samsung's UK portal and isn't related to the S Pen Case itself.

Anyway, this isn't a cheap accessory. If you want to buy the S Pen case for your Galaxy Z Fold 6, you're looking at a price tag of $99 / £89. Of course, you're buying it mostly for the S Pen, which seems to work as intended, but that doesn't excuse the apparently flawed design of the front frame.

It is rather unfortunate that Samsung never managed to embed the S Pen inside the body of the Galaxy Z Fold itself. Then again, it may have made the Z Fold 7 a better phone. Either way, the S Pen may never return to the Fold series.

As for Galaxy Z Fold 6 users, if you want to buy the S Pen Case and enjoy this now-rare feature while you can, you might be risking $99 on an accessory that your foldable phone will likely outlast.
