Samsung is working on bringing One UI 8 to compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets as quickly as possible, with Google revealing that the stable One UI 8 update will come out sometime this summer (between June and September).

We have already gotten access to early One UI 8 firmware for several Galaxy flagships launched in the last two years, and now, a Galaxy S22 series phone—the Ultra model—has been spotted running the next version of Android and One UI on the Geekbench benchmark database. (via TarunVats)

Is it surprising that Samsung is moving so quickly with development on Android 16 and One UI 8? Well, based on the One UI 8 firmware we have tested on newer devices like the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, no. The next major OS upgrade for Galaxy devices, at least at this stage, is as barebones as it can get and is mostly about minor UI improvements for now.

The list of One UI 8 features is depressingly small, and we don't think Samsung has the time to change that. The company is planning to launch the One UI 8 beta program this month, though it's possible Samsung will introduce new features over the course of the beta program.

Android 16 and One UI 8 will be the final big operating system updates for the Galaxy S22 lineup. The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra launched running Android 12 back in 2022 and are only eligible for four generations of major Android updates.
