Apple could enter the foldable smartphone segment this year, seven years after Samsung unveiled its first Galaxy Fold. Its first foldable iPhone may also have at least one advantage over the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to launch later this year. The device could offer longer battery life, thanks to a larger battery.

A Chinese tipster who goes by the name Fixed Focus Digital claims that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will feature a 5,500mAh battery. If this information is accurate, it could deliver significantly better battery life than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to pack a 5,000mAh+ battery.

Traditionally, Apple has been able to deliver longer battery life despite similar or smaller battery capacities, thanks to more efficient processors and a highly optimized operating system. With a battery capacity that is roughly 10 percent higher than that of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Apple’s foldable iPhone could significantly outperform its rival in terms of endurance.

The foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch OLED cover display and a 7.8-inch inner foldable OLED display with a creaseless design. It could include a dual rear camera setup with two 48MP sensors, an under-display selfie camera on the inner screen, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and a 2nm chipset (A20 Pro).

Apple is also exploring clamshell-style foldable iPhone to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series phones.
