Samsung isn't the only brand that is actively working on augmented reality (AR) glasses. Even Amazon and Apple are working on AR glasses that could be launched in the next couple of years. While Meta is ready to launch its first AR glasses this month, Amazon's AR glasses could be launched in 2026 or 2027.

Amazon's AR glasses could rival Samsung's rumored AR glasses in 2027

According to a report from The Information (via UploadVR), Amazon is working on two AR glasses with heads-up displays. The first AR glass model, which is reportedly made for Amazon's delivery agents, features one monochromatic display and a bulkier design. The second model, which will be made for consumers, reportedly has a sleek and lightweight design and features a full-color heads-up display.

The online shopping giant is said to be planning to make 100,000 units of its delivery agent-focussed AR glasses, and they could be launched in mid-2026. The consumer-focussed version of the company's AR glasses will reportedly be launched in late 2026 or early 2027. That is the same timeframe when Samsung's second-generation smart glasses with an AR display will reportedly launch.

Amazon has started ditching its FireOS for Fire TV devices and switching to Vega OS. For its Kindle series tablets, though, it will reportedly switch to the standard version of Android. So, it isn't clear which OS it will use for its AR glasses. In comparison, Samsung's AR glasses could run the Android XR OS that it is helping Google build.

Some reports suggest that Apple's first-generation smart glasses, without a heads-up display, will be launched in 2027. So, AR glasses from Amazon, Meta, and Samsung will have the advantage over Apple's first-generation smart glasses, as the display can be used to see information such as messages, notifications, maps navigation, and more.
